WADEMOS, Tournons La Page and other pro-democracy actors and activists call for the review of ECOWAS Additional Protocol, by integrating the term limit of mandates

Ahead of the ECOWAS Heads of State Summit in Nigeria, civil society organizations across the sub-region met in Nigeria on December 8, 2023, to deliberate on the deteriorating state of democracy in the subregion, with particular emphasis on addressing the issue of term elongation and term limits in West Africa.

Attached is the Joint Communique issued by WADEMOS, Tournons La Page and other pro-democracy actors and activists at the end of the conference held in Abuja demanding the revision of the Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance and the inclusion of the term limit.

While highlighting the implications and threats to democracy resulting from term limit extensions, the release also stresses specific measures CSOs are demanding from ECOWAS. Read the document here
